There is a website which offers checks on VIN etc numbers which i used to check an S1 OTS that i was thinking of buying a year or so ago . It was www.mycarcheck.com ; I don't know whether it was still operating but I seem to recall it turned up the information I wanted , without having the reg no., at very modest cost

Yes, I have tried them but if you look on their website you can only use this service if you have already done a vehicle check with them which of course requires the reg no which I don't have! I seem to be going round in circles just to avoid doing something wrong! I have now written to the DVLA and explained to them and will see what comes back. I did however get the Heritage Cert for the vehicle yesterday (very quick service I must say!) so let's just hope I can go ahead and buy the vehicle when I hear from DVLA - I seem to think their service will not be so prompt!
