Some may have seen this before, the story of a US retired who bought on line for little money a farm in Portugal. And decided one day to open the welded doors of the attending hangar:

That guy was addict to cars, any car, from small dailies to luxury ones, even F1s and has accumulated during all his life...
Lucky discovery, if the new owner weren't retired he could start a new business!

It was a hoax story made up for people to pass around on the net. ;-)

There actually was a barn full of these mostly quite desirable old cars but they were really the long time collection of a retired car dealer.

You can stay in Belgium if you want and see a similar barnfind - I went and took photos:

I drove out to the East of Belgium, having received an address by email. It was very much off the beaten track (in fact it was single track at one point). Small village called Meeuwen. A row of modern houses in the middle of nowhere with a very large barn behind them.

I pulled up to greet a chap waiting for me - but not the seller - a friend. Helpful chap by the name of Paul wearing a "jaguar farm.be" fleece. What I saw next took my breath away...

Behind him was a barn stuffed with approximately 60-70 1970s and 80s cars. Granted that a couple were replicas on VW, Fiat or Skodas (Testarossa etc), but they were in the minority. I counted two original Ferrari Mondials, a Ferrari 400, two TVR Chimeras, a couple of Lotuses, a Rolls, a Bentley, countless large Mercedes fully-loaded. The barn was dry and the overall state of the cars appeared quite good though I had the impression many had been sitting for several years.

I was rather taken by the Ferrari 400 (blue). Seller wanted 15,000 euros for it...

Second site

I then went on to another address that was given to me. It was about 30km away. It was in a similar location as the first, and there were approximately 60 cars in the barn. Unfortunately, these cars were of a decidedly lesser order, and much less cared for. The barn was dry but the cars were covered in dust and bird shit. Apparently they had been moved there three years ago.

In this lot there was a lot of junk -scrap at best. Amongst the others that stood out was a Ferrari 208, a couple of Maseratis (Biturbos, Meraks?), a couple of Jaguar XJSs, Lotuses, two sad looking TR7s, Sptifires, and a Panther Lima. I thought that was unusual as I recall they only made 800 or so.

The cars at the second site were project and parts cars -you'd have to brave to get in there. Not for the fainthearted.
