And the results on a 6 cylinder E type will, as ever, be horrible !

I agree. 6 Cylinder e-types are better with 185VR15 tyres. However i am aware that lots of people want a wider tyre, and are prepared to put up with the effected handling.

Also there are lots of cars with (for the sake of ease; lets call it) upgraded steering. under these circumstances then a fatter tyre is fine.

If you are going to fit a wider tyre fitting a proper period tyre like this or the XWX will diminish the effects that fitting an oversized tyre will give.

If you requested radial tyres on a S1 E-Type, Jaguar fitted http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/18 ... urato.html because Dunlop at the time didn't make a radial tyre that was up till the capabilities of a S1 E-Type. I don't think their Aquajet came out until the Series 2 in 68 when Jaguar started to fit the Dunlop because of it's price compared to the Cinturato.

205/70VR15s were factory fitted. Dunlop aquamaster(?) I think.

Yes the Dunlop Aquajet is the Original equuipment on the series 3 cars https://www.borrani.com/en/dunlop-tyres ... sport.html

However i would suggest my tyres of choice would be the Pirelli Cinturato http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/20 ... urato.html or the Michelin XWX https://www.borrani.com/en/205-70vr15-michelin-xwx.html

I believe Michelin and Pirelli are 2 of the worlds best tyre manufacturers, and the Cinturato and the XWX are actually made by Pirelli and Michelin.

Douglas, did you make any test comparing different tyres fitting e-types, and judged on specific criteria (brake on dry road, wet road, handling, etc) to be so convinced of Pirelli and Michelin's quality? Why would you recommend them (except because they are the best tire manufacturers in the world)?

I have had Yokohama's, Pirelli P6000 and Michelin XVS on my OTS and the XVS reign supreme under all condition's. Downside is they are so sticky they can wear quickly but that depends on how you drive. I have Dunlop SP on my FHC and although they visually appear to have a wider tread they do not instill the confidence of the Michelin's on a spirited run.
