Painted or Chrome Wires?
#21
Come on Mark, you know it makes sense. A set of 5" painted wires shod with Michelin XVS 185's to make the car look and perform even better. I think Longstone have some sort of offer on at the moment - buy five and get the red one free!

I'll stick to the chrome jobbies for a while and see how they go. My original (and boy, they look original) wheels were chrome, and I'm wondering if all American export cars had chrome wheels fitted?
David, what wheel and tyre size do you use for the spare? I doubt that my / your ex wider wheels fit into the wheel well.
And I've just found another clincher for sticking to the chrome....as fitted to Diabolik's black coupe. Who am I to argue with the taste of THE Italian superhero?? Don't answer that one!

Only a 5" wheel will fit in the wheel well - at least on the OTS, presumably the FHC is the same. I used a 5" with a 185 tyre although the rolling diameter will be different if you ever have to fit it. Not sure a P6000 on a 5" would fit.
Oh and the real Diabolik stunt car had a beige interior, no wing mirror and painted wires!

Personally i think their is nothing to compete with the Borrani wheels with painted spokes and well but a polished flange they look fabulous, though not the cheapest wheels.
you can now get 185VR15 Pirelli Cinturato's which are so period and fantastic. they were by far the best tyre you could buy in the 60's

#25 Chrome or painted wires?
Can anyone tell me whether painted wires were still available even as an option once the 'flat hub' wires were introduced? I'm looking to replace the tatty (incorrect) curly hub chromes on my S1 1/2 FHC and am keen to find out what the correct options were. Although I have a price list for optional extras dated June '68 which shows chrome wires costing an extra ?44 (plus tax!), it's not clear what the alternative no cost option was (if there was one...) Any help or information would be much appreciated.

On the S2 chrome wire wheels were standard, pressed steel an option.

Not sure that's correct. From Philip Porter's book:Heuer wrote:On the S2 chrome wire wheels were standard
"Stoved aluminium wheels were fitted as standard equipment, but chrome-plated could be supplied to special order .... Disc wheels became optional later"
Clausager is a bit vague on the point (preferring to focus on the option to have disc wheels), but certainly my S2's had stove-enamelled wheels from new.

240v was probably intended for the Nordic countries, not for the US/Canada.mgcjag wrote:Interesting..The 3rd item..240v heating element for block...but not Canada. ..presumably for the colder parts of the US.....never heard of that for an E before....anyone see one... Steve
I have one of these heating elements on my S2, it is located on the right side of the block between carbs and oil filter.

Do check the part number to see whether the block heater should have 220/240v or 110/120v across it. If you connect 220v onto a fitting designed for 110v then it will pull four times the current and promptly go bang.
kind regards
Marek
