Series 2 2+2 windscreen
#1 Series 2 2+2 windscreen
I've just seen a 2+2 for sale that looks good but has a cracked windscreen. I've heard they are difficult to source and fit. Has anyone had experience of finding one and fitting one and an indication of cost?
Also does Pilkingtons make 2+2 screens?
Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick.....worth giving Pilkington a call.....CMC also have windscreens made by them and if they do a S2 2+2 screen they may give you a cost fully fitted....and call SNG....Hopefully someone will reply who has fitted a 2+2 screen and let you know if they are a good fit.. Steve

I suppose my question should have been "are they easy to come by and are they expensive"?
If anyone has had any experience of this, please let me know.
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Paolo,
My car passed its MOT with the crack so I 've decided to wait until I have some body work and painting done before I remove the windscreen.
The problem we face is not finding a screen but finding someone who can fit it properly.

Hi Nick, just noticed your post after returning from holiday, below is an item I wrote about my windscreen replacement some 5 years ago. The forum experts will tell you but I believe all 2 + 2 windscreens are not the same on the series 1 & 2 something to do with the rake angle.

Windscreen Replacement
Ever since I purchased my S1 2 + 2 E type some 5 years ago the windscreen has bugged me. It was delaminating on the N/S lower edge and it had a couple of chips on the inside which were in the drivers view, a result of some rough storage I presume during it?s rebuild. I decided to live with it after reading all the horror stories on this and other forums of badly fitting screens and repo?s which were too large to fit.
A few weeks ago my World and windscreen were shattered as something hit the car presumably thrown up by the traffic in front. A small dent in the bodywork close to the wiper, a bent wiper and several large cracks in the screen radiating from near the wiper. I registered the claim and after a couple of days Autoglass made contact and informed me that I would have to get the car down to them as they did not fit these windscreens off site as they were far too difficult and he had put aside a day in which to do it. With a sense of foreboding I dropped the car down to them in Portsmouth and awaited my fate. 2 hours later the phone rang and I was told the car was ready, she did not know whether there had been a problem with the fitting.
Armed with my best ?I am not accepting this poor workmanship? tirade I went to inspect the car, to be meet with an E type and it?s perfect new clear shiny windscreen.
For the record the make of the replacement screen was a Pilkington Triplex. Cost to me was ?40 insurance excess, a good tip and some anxiety.

#10 second hand 2+2 windscreen
Hi there
for those who could be interested with, I've a tinted 2+2 S1 / 1.5 windscreen in good condition.
I've bought it for my S3 but it does not fit.
I propose it @ ?180. I do have a large carton box dedicated to ship it securely.
Cheers

Just for information CMC sent me an email (December 2015) saying:
The price of a windscreen can vary depending on whether you want a clear screen of a tinted screen. The clear screen will cost ?371.10 + VAT. The tinted screen will cost ?359.85 + VAT. There will also be a shipping and packaging charge on top of this.
If there is anything else that I can help with, please don?t hesitate to ask.
