The texture and the smell of the samples is perfect so if you want that original Jaguar Vaumol look and feel insist your trimmer uses these hides.

I used it on my restoration and it is superb. A little more expensive but worth the extra.

Do you know if the usual trim suppliers (Aldridge, BAS,...) would offer this leather ?

They will use it if you ask for it and then buy what they need from Connolly

here you go . not easy to see the grain but its there. The Vaumol has a much firmer and substantial feel to it than some of the very soft leathers used by other suppliers

Looking at the Vaumol sample, card that David has kindly posted above, there are three reds that all look similar. So which is the correct code/colour for 62 Etype? Tricky to work out, some look very bright but increasingly newer restored cars seem to have a deeper rather than brighter red. Would be good to know.

well actually if you exclude "pillarbox red", "Lord of commons red" and "Burgondy" you only have one left : the large sample bottom right VM3171
but it's worth checking with period catalogs, as I guess there was a sample catalog from Jaguar at the time ?

why would you ignore the Burgundy and House of Lords red? You may ignore them on name but the colours look good. I have the sample card as well.

Although not a '62, my '64 FHC has listed on the Heritage Certificate as red, and the color matches the large patch in the lower photo, VM 3171.

well I believe if Jaguar had sold for E-types the Burgundy and House of Lords red from Connoly, they would have called it "Burgundy" and "House of Lords red" , not"red"

Andrew

I have been buying leather from UK Hide who are suppliers for the Vaumol leather...it's a small business, usual 2 or 3 staff..all very helpful...why not get in contact with them, they probably have samples so they can send you something...or better still call round...they are pretty much next to Brooklands..so a visit to the museum is always worthwhile..!!

Thanks for suggestions. I do have samples already I was just trying to work out which red was the correct red as fitted to the E type. I have definitely seen varying shades on rebuilds. So perhaps it's what you feel you want. The larger red swatch on the card is quite bright but as Rolando 38 said it is probably correct.

Andrew

I have in front of me a sample of the Vaumol red as supplied by Jonathon Connolly who trades under the name of C. B. Leather. It matches the red of my Etype perfectly and as mooney stated the reference number is 3171 - it is fabulous material!

Thanks Richard. Excellent work! I suspected it would be that one. As you say the material is superb, I used it in my FHC. THANKS and Happy New Year

A friend picked up his (2010) XJ-L. It has 57000 miles on it, but the thing that struck me was the leather, no noticeable wear and the quality was justlovely.

Anyone know what it is? Where it comes from?
