#1 Recolouring leather seats

Post by Sjmmarsh » Fri Jun 26, 2015 4:32 pm

I am thinking of trying this kit to restore the finish of my seats and arm rest: http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leathe ... nt_Kit.php

Has anyone tried this, and do you know whether the best finish is gloss, Matt or Satin?

I recently used one of these to put the colour back into my seats. Worked well, needed a medium kit for the two seats and I feel they don't give you enough propellant and had to buy an extra can. The gloves they provide wear out too quickly, so have spare disposable gloves to hand.

Give yourself a few days to do the job nicely and for the finish to dry off before using the seats. I chose satin, but kind of feel gloss might have been better. The first coat of finish you apply is a gloss, then you put the final satin/gloss/matt finish on so you'll see what the gloss looks like.

I used a blow heater to stop the can of propellant freezing, they suggest putting it in hot water.

I used the earlier stuff, they just supplied the liquids. I used an airbrish to do the seams first, then did the rest with a gravity feed touch up gun. Worked for me.

Here are the before and after results using the Furniture Clinic recolour set on the central armrest.

I am pretty pleased with the result! The front seats are next.

Steve

Very impressive results indeed. What finish did you opt for- matt, satin......?

Great look. I like that a lot better than new leather.

Alan - I used semi gloss. Not quite as shiny as full gloss, and seemed to match the less worn areas quite well.

Nefematic- I agree. As the rest of the car is still original, having seats with someone patina seems to work well.
