Just been using Ian's excellent guide earlier in the thread to fill in the V55/5, but I can't decide from DVLA's guide whether they will accept a copy of the Heritage Certificate or if they want an original. What have others found is successful?

Bob

They supposedly want originals but I sent a colour photocopy of it and they were quite happy. I never got any originals back despite sending them a prepaid special SAE. So I am glad I sent all mine as colour copies and they never commented.

Thanks Ian, I think I will probably try your technique. I suppose in the end it just depends who picks the job up and their interpretation of the rules i.e. pot luck!

It's such a shame that the DVLA closed their offices. In 1999 I worked for a car dealership in Epsom that imported new Volkwagens from Belgium and Eunos Roadsters from Japan. All of the paperwork could be taken to Wimbledon DVLA, you would wait for not very long and someone would go through your registration application make sure everything you needed was there and send it off. Sigh....

Hi,

Has anyone submitted a V355/5 recently.

Are the instructions here still correct etc..

You can now download and print the V355/5.

My car was converted from LHD to RHD so do I need an IVA?

Thanks
Chris

I did mine last year, based on the instructions.
Mine was also lhd to rhd but did not need the IVA.
However, I had to have the car inspected by SGS before they would give an age related plate, so it is likely you will too.

Interestingly the V5 does not show if the vehicle is LHD or RHD. When I had mine converted I assumed I'd need to keep the DVLA informed but the V5 has nowhere to record it.

I have been in contact several times with the same scenario most often plate transfer off old cars for the 1st time , and the " rules" change every time , from needing an inspection , needing an mot , ( even though it's mot excempt and the one before didnt need mot-ing) or it just goes through ok ...... go figure ????
Also when I Registerd my E they sent my paperwork with rejection , where an "l "
Hadn't been made into a "1" by HMRC . With a small line _ under thr offending 1 or l with no clear explanation in the rejection letter ... annnnnnd when i rang the "help" line the ( really now trying not to use rude welsh stereotypical language ) young lady had no idea why i had been sent the rejection, and sugested i just send it again and see what happens , :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :cussing:

Every day they use different rules

To keep things simple with the dvla it would probably be simpler to register a left hand drive import befor any modifications are made ( apart from lens covers to get mot etc)....I know this dosnt help you but it may others.....The thing to beware of is that modifications to a vehicle be it LHD or RHD are supposed to be reported to the dvla this will then possibly trigger them to inspect.....and depending what modifcations you have done then different registration processes are required....which could result in an IVA and or Q plate....info here for all the dvla registration options.....Steve https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration

I have to say that so far I have never had a problem registering a imported car with the DVLA.
I have done it a few times & just tick the box where it says RHD.
Good luck with it .

I should also have said that if you are a member of the J E C they will provide you with a letter to send to the D V L A . This confirms the details of your car , other clubs may also do this.

For my UK registration process a couple of years ago, this did not assist since the DVLA stated that the JEC had merely written a letter and had not physically inspected the car. Mine then had an inspection that the DVLA organised via SGS.
