502 Bad Gateway

I'm starting to see 502 Bad Gateway notices when I click on several of the postings. Any one else having the problem? We had this problem a couple of weeks ago.

Not seeing it here - try clearing your browser cache and closing it before trying again. We are still waiting for FTP access to the old server to get things moved across so we can be sure everything is back to normal. You may sometimes see a 404 error on the E Type UK home page but clicking on 'Forum' will by-pass that. The system is no longer sending out emails if you subscribe to a thread, change your password or receive a PM. You will have to bear with us, but the cause is not actually technical but intransigence on the part of the previous web hosting company. All the data and post are safe/backed up and I could create a new pop-up site with it but that would be the last resort. Marcus who owns E Type UK now hopes the changeover will be completed in early June.

Thanks, David. The problem seems to have cleared itself. When I first saw that you had responded to my original post, I was unable to access your response. I closed all of my open windows and reopened the forum link (is that clearing the browser cache?) and now all is good.

The problem is back again, but only on some threads. I've tried clearing the browser cache to no avail. Any other ideas?

Problem solved for now. I cleared by browser history of everything and the previously unavailable threads now open. Irritating.

Edit - why did I say that? Loads won't open for me tonight. Grrrr.

There is a problem with the system hosting the forum code.

Our browsers make a request to forum.etypeuk.com which is handled by the nginx server at forums.etypeuk.com. The nginx server passes the request to the forum server (phpBB) which processes the request and generates the HTML page which is then passed to the nginx server and then on to your browser.

That process is failing in the phpBB server which returns crap to nginx. So nginx sends you the 503 Bad Gateway response.

Given that clearing your browser cache can fix it for a while, it suggests that cookies are involved. There are three of them...

phpbb2mysql_sid
phpbb2mysql_t

deleting those might less invasive that clearing your browser cache.

If one Googles "phpBB 502" there are a lot of hits. phpBB modules and template customizations can cause them.

Not seeing the 'Bad Gateway' error here. Have seen it in the past but trying a different browser/clearing the cache usually solves it.
