Angus sent me these photos of a car he, Leon and Murray have just completed; I thought I should share them here because the workmanship and attention to detail is quite stunning.

Good point raised Geoff. Maybe there are other pics taken with the girls on the bonnet that David is hiding aside and will be distilling these one a time on another well followed topic.
Specially as Peter did mention he taught him everything he knew.

It's beautiful. I do wish there was a wider angle shot of the interior that included the car.

One particularly striking aspect of the car is how smoothly the light flows down the side of the car in the rear three-quarter view. In most similar photos I recall, the light is wavy as if the panels and doors are convex; higher in the middel and trailing in towards the seams.

Is the metal work on this car restored better than factory?

Dear Jim,

They all look nice on the internet, especially if you hire a professional photographer rather than make-do with a mate whose got a cameraphone.

Sadly, the client has had the car painted in 2pack paint, so once you get close, you'll see it is just as wavy and stippled as any modern car. To truly "restore" one of these cars, you'd really have to use a paint which dries flat - modern water based and all 2pack epoxy paints have a natural "bumpy" finish which becomes obvious when viewed under a striplight. It's a tragedy really, considering the amount of money they must have spent.

I think if the JCNA were to deduct points for that, then people would sit up and take notice and the trickle down effect would be that restored cars would look unrestored and that must surely be the desired result.

It looks absolutely lovely, but you wouldn't repaint the Mona Lisa in acrylics would you? In that respect, it isn't a restoration - it is now something else.

Ralph, the pictures aren't owned by me but l will ask the owner if we can have some hi res files.

Jim, yes, the body work is better than factory. I have seen a number of original cars now and to our modern eye, they are crude in some respects.

The first thing that jumped out at me was that all the bumper blades are horizontal (not drooping), all the over-riders are upright and square with the blades. Very few restored cars, regardless of asking price, are like that. You can measure the quality of the whole work by looking for those tell tale signs of perfectionism.
