#1 Trying to trace an E-type

Post by Louise Gibbs » Tue Feb 21, 2017 10:37 am

Morning all

We've had the following request to the E-type Club office:

I am writing a book about the rock band Deep Purple. Keyboard player Jon Lord owned an E-Type in 1971 for a couple of years, and research suggests the car is still registered, but we don't know where.
The reg plate is MXJ370H and it was white when he had it, though may have been black originally.

We assume if it is about the current owner may not know it had a famous owner once, so it might be fun to let them know.

Jon drove the car down to Montreux when the group recorded Smoke On The Water, and was photographed there with the vehicle. I could send a scan if that might help. If you wanted a short story for the club magazine, let me know.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Louise

Sorry a little off topic but couldn't resist telling my Jon Lord story ...
Back in 2012 I'm on holiday down in the south of france up in the Alps near a small town called Entravaux.
Well one lunch time me and my wife have popped into a small super market. And while my wife is looking around on see what we could have for dinner that night . I'm nosing around the music and Film section. And as to be expected all of the music is French and I have no knowledge of the groups at all ...... except one . The Best off Deep Purple , I had it yonks before on tape and now it was in front of me on a cd , so into the shopping basket it went ........
Fast forward 10 or so days later and I'm back home on a 70s based forum and a good few posts down I notice RIP Jon Lord . So I read the posts a see it was on the 16th of July........ back track my days of my holiday ... Annnnd yep I bought the said CD on the day , quiet unbeknown to me, he died (a Thursday if I remember rightly??? )
Spooky or what :?:

It (plus Jon Lord) appeared in Collectors Corner a little while back:

A 2+2, judging by the wipers - and the fact that he appears to be standing in it rather than behind it.

This type of story needs another description - somehow 'spooky' does not justify! (such a great band).
