#1 Photobucket

Post by Garrym » Tue Aug 15, 2017 9:08 am

Many of the searches I've tried have the photos replaced by the photobucket clock emblem. Is there a way to get these photos? They are sorely missed when looking for help.
I don't know if this has been answered before. I did a search but was unable to find a solution.
Thanks
Garry

We know of the problem and the only solution is for the author to download the photos to their PC and then upload them via Postimage or Imgur. Please put links to posts with missing photos here and we will see if we can put them back. With 85,000 posts it is difficult to know what is missing.

This is a tragedy, so many good threads with images (especially technical and restoration threads) destroyed, not only on this forum, globally!

Obviously not the forums fault, just a great shame.

I can see the logic in what they have done though. Photobucket are a relatively small company, from what I understand around 50 employees. Their biggest overhead is server storage space and the majority of users hold free accounts.

They've got around 100 million users, so even if they only retained 1% of those on their new pricing structure, not only would they make about $400m in revenue but they'd also vastly reduce their biggest cost.

Equally if they had introduced an annual charge of $39.99 for anyone who wanted to post on Forums their retention rate would have been over 50% and they would have made a lot more money. I can't see them continuing in business for long as their reputation has hit the floor and anyone who wants to host photos will avoid them because of the publicity. Injecting that spam PB picture into billions of Forum posts world wide is the kiss of death.

Moving forwards I have transferred all the Factory Fit photos across to a new host along with anything I put in the Upgrades Forum. Next will be Collectors Corner. I have an extension until Dec 2018 because I DID pay $25 p.a. to host photos on Forums but now they want 15x that amount per year.

If anyone spots a thread with the PB spam in it let us know here and we will try and sort it. As I say above all my posts and 8,000+ photos will be safe for the next 15 months which gives me time to move them.
