Rough value for a restored e type OTS 4,2 series 1 and 1/2

I am looking for the above, and it needs to be in restored condition , I've looked around on the internet and the values seem to be all over the place, from suspiciously cheap to outrageously pricey. Does anyone have a rough range for an A1 car but obviously not a show winner or concours nut and bot re build? Trying not to ley my heart rule my head here...

Hi Richie.....starting prices for ots are around £60k.. but you already know this....you need to go and view as many as possible if your fixed on a S1.5 then you are limiting your options.....assuming you have a budget then find the best available that you can afford......if you find a car and want advice then post a link to it here...you will get members opinion on condition and price.....important to check the car numbers on http://www.xkedata.com all the best.... Thanks for this. My fear is a cheaper car unrestored will only be hiding problems in the future, hence my thinking for a restored car.Also I am not good at mechanical stuff and my garage is small.
I have been offered one by classic motor cars in Shropshire for £140K not on web yet. Restored 12 years ago for current owner, green, hard top, series 1 and 1/2. Thats a Huge amount of money, but from what I've been told, there are no bargains and a cheap car would need lots of money spent on it.

Sounds a lot for a S1.5 but then CMC are a trader so have popped on their mark up. It would doubtless be a good one but if you know what to look for I would say with some research and probably seeing a couple of duds first you could find a good one for rather less than £140K....at that price it should be mint or very nearly so....

Hi Richie...yes it is a lot if money, CMC are one of the top restoration companies in the country, they dont do cheap restorations.....like i said you need to look at as many as possible so you can compare, ....if thats your budget then you can have you pick from many vary well restored ots,s have a look here and call the owner Angus Moss, he is one of the moderators on this forum, he may well know of someting else you could be interested in..... most important dont rush...... http://www.mossjaguar.com/index.html

Thanks for the advice, will look at these as well. I would need to sell my 911 Supersport and my lovely Red NSX to pay for an E Type in this price range. And of course, who knows if that's the right thing to do, only time would tell. I know people who have driven an E Type and disliked it, others who fell completely in love with it.
I am undecided, which some would interpret as "time waster" but that would perhaps be a little unfair!

No reasonable person selling an E Type would consider you a time waster for being careful about spending such a large amount of money on something you don't really need.

Drive as many as you can of as many types as you can. Ask lots of questions and learn as much as possible.

You have 2 lovely cars to choose from anyway so you should feel no pressure.

I sold my 1.5 FHC last year for $AU150k. It was in good restored condition but not a potential concourse winner. Details at www.projectetype.com.

My view on "restored" cars is one of profound cynicism. Personally I'd prefer to do the work myself and do it properly, but obviously not everyone can do that.

For the money you'll be spending, if you have doubts get someone knowledgeable to inspect the car for you. There are any number of businesses in the UK who can do this for you.

I'm used to Classics, its always a revelation to rememebr what cars used to be like and part of the fun really, particulalry remembering to brake very early! I'm sure I would love driving an E, but frankly its the price that scares me rigid. My 911 was bought long before things got silly, so I never feel "precious" about it, its worth about £90K now which is bonkers, but £140K? Hmmm

There's nothing wrong with test driving, as long as there's insurance cover in place. You might love it, or you might hate it.

To reconcile the price in my mind, I would look at what I would have invested in it if I was trading in something I had made a gain on.

There are cars available from sources other than CMC and Eagle etc. These vendors tend to be enormously expensive and not every car they sell has necessarily been restored by them.

If your budget doesn't stretch to a OTS even in barn-find-spend-a-fortune-restoration project, why not give serious consideration to a 2+2.

The view from the driver's seat is identical, as is the perception of anyone other than an E-Type anorak. You'll have all the fun of owning and driving but at considerably reduced outlay.

I bought mine off Grahame at CMS and he was brilliant to deal with - there are a few customers of his on here as well. The car at the top of the page would be about right for you and a bit cheaper than the other one you've been looking at?

Yes it seems better value. From what I've learned this past 6 months in the club and forum is that the bodywork is the killer, mechanics less so. Most E's look shiny and inviting but underneath there lurks costly rust and tricky sub frame and chassis problems, unless its had all of that done which means a lot more money.
However every time I see a photo I think" thats for me!"
