OBL = $565k

By the way, this is the abridged version of my hours: https://www.butlinclassiccars.co.uk/index.php/10
In terms of the main 'grunt' I would think fairly representative of all the hours needing to be spent sorting out the bodyshell before work on the oily bits and shiny stuff can get underway.

I would say that between 1500 and 2000 hours. However, we could never bill for every hour we put in. 4 hours to adjust a door? Could be more!

I had my original, but very nasty, ‘64 OTS fully restored by marque experts. The monocoque was a complete mess (with rust and botched repairs) and all mechanical systems and components were fully worn out.
The labor totaled 2,300 hours and the car is now magnificent.
I can’t imagine how someone could speed another 2,000 hours on an E-type restoration unless they forged a new engine block from iron ore.

Yes, but experienced professionals like you also only need to order a part in once. My experience of ever trying to do anything myself is as follows:
1st Order - Realise that I've ordered the wrong part and am too embarrassed to admit it
2nd Order - The correct part, but I make a right pig's ear of trying to fit it not realising that there's a knack
3rd Order - Finally, the right part and I manage to get it to fit without butchering it

There is a video tour of this car at the auction house available here:
We were curious as to what brake bottle caps were fitted - I said they should have been NIVOCODE or early Sovy - but it turns out they are reproduction Sovy ones with the patent number imprint:

Should be these:

I saw the car up close and there were quite a lot of things not great about the car. Although not a bad fit, the bonnet was not a great fit, particularly on the RH Side. Certainly not good enough for the hours that purportedly went into the restoration and the asking price, or for what it ultimately went for. Clearly Rich Owens has different criteria to determine excellence than mine. Not a Great Car in my opinion.

Really nice car and imho by far too cheap.
Was auctioned the weekend following a bad stockmarket week with recession fears. This might have caused a lower result. 885010 was auctioned one year before and result was 650k (without premium = 720k with premium) The head was not matching and at that time the market was already on a slight downturn. Not sure about the quality of the restoration, but it was fully restored to original specifications and subsequently again redone to correct the last flaws of originality. So assumingly this was a very original and well restored car.
Regarding 885018; I would have gone for it if I had the money. OBL FHCs are damn rare as only 24 were made (in comparison to 476 Roadsters), two are definitely gone and solely 16 are known today. If that was a Porsche or Ferrari with that beauty, we would face a much higher price tag, at least 7 digit.
Spinners and mirror is an easy catch; I would not bother about it. You get this all the time. But original Solvy (Nivocode were exchanged already against Solvy black senders) is very difficult (original Nivocodes are easier to find) and what I would have hoped to see is at least a Flatfloor bonnet transferred to OBL. But the mouth on this one seems by far too big. Nevertheless again; if I had the money, I would have offered more....
