Nice business? It's a commercial risk. If only 20 people are interested, the remainder are worthless. (If 200 people are interested, you'll have a bidding war, no matter what price you pitched it at.)
Most likely, the price is pitched at a level such that the first ten people make the project break even. If the seller can find an eleventh buyer, he's going to be delighted.
I honestly doubt there is a market for 199 at ten grand each.
If it were a guaranteed winner, he wouldn't need to advertise.
kind regards
Marek

...and that precisely proves the point. Jaguar never thought they were going to make more than a few hundred etypes so didn't tool up properly until much much later. They had no idea it would be a success and were taking a punt.
You need to balance this argument and also look at the XJ220. The same big fanfare, a V12 engine with all conquering performance. Everyone queued up with their deposits and...... were sold a pup with a souped up engine worthy of a Metro inside. All 275 of them that is, not the 77,000 like for the etype.
Remember also, the last of the 1974 etypes didn't sell either. No one wanted a rubber bumpered car that did 12mpg - they still don't!
It's a deep irony that many more models of the XJ220 have been made than Jaguar ever made of the real thing!
Let's hope they sell enough models to at least break even, otherwise they won't be there for us next time we want them for something.
kind regards
Marek

You're absolutely right, Marek. It is always a leap into the unknown and demands nerves of steel and the willingness to "take a bath" if the project fails.
I'm right at that stage now and find myself procrastinating over a product launch which could bomb or really take off. If it really takes off it can bring a different set of problems in satisfying demand.
The effort is to be admired. It's always easy to criticise.

Mine is at a scale of 1:1, cost me about the same price in 2013 when I bought it - I can actually sit in it and drive it and oh yes, it drives better than the real thing!
