Just checked the box. Casting date is 2nd October 63

EJ819 stamped in the same place as the Moss box and not on the top plate.

Interesting Angus, so not all that early in 4.2 production - XKE data throws up EJ017 - the earliest I can find still in 4.2 territory.

Lots of early numbers in the early 4.2 range but none that I can see in late 3.8s.

No and if they were numbered in the 3.8 style (EB---js) perhaps we would have seen one by now?

I agree. I also believed that the last 3.8s were fitted with the later box but can see no evidence to support this.
