No need to get cross Carsten , as I said its low interest rates driving asset inflation. Yes I do buy food and energy; this includes petrol which has fallen 10p litre recently and central heating oil which has remained stable for over a year. But as you say this is all off-topic, it would be great if I could afford a GTO but my E type is brilliant.

Yes- I LOVE Jaguar for having built so many.

This is the ONLY way I could afford one. Really. If they made 100, as Porter said, they would cost a gaziillion dollars.

Same with the DS- 1.44 MILLION built, very high - tech for it?s time, and still a normal family father can have one (sadly not a cabriolet, darn, I missed a few and now they do beat an S1 OTS easily. ARGH).

Or the 300 SL as written- so few built, add image and racing history, bang, 800 k Euro for one. No way.

There was I going to take ours out for a spin tomorrow, perhaps the last of the autumn before salt becomes a worry (Cevennes already white), and now they've taken away the garage key and told me to take the Multipla instead.

Thanks for the advice Carsten. Find me another car where you never get stopped by the police, never have it stolen, nobody wants them so they're 10-a-penny on Le Bon Coin, zero amortisement, handles like a kart, excellent brakes, cheap parts, reliable, tons of room, three-a-breast seating front and back - there's six of us - and for long distances you get the TGV or a 'plane ? But the best bit is the sneers from everyone else driving big-dick cars they (mostly) can't afford to buy and still less afford to repair, stuck on the tread-mill of the trade-in-illusions and manufacturer-finance-deals. Besides, as I say to the kids (as they make me leave them on a corner far from the school gate), if we've got the most beautiful car in the world (and most beautiful 'bike ?) in the garage, what's wrong with driving The Most Ugly Car In The World some of the time ? Bring it on !!

Odd that Carsten, who loves Ciroen's engineering-led idiosyncrasies, despises Fiat's fit-for-purpose idiosyncratic offering. I have three E's and three bikes in the garage but drive a 1991 land yacht. God preserve us from boring depreciating rational vehicles... And I'd rather discuss six-seaters than E-types at >400k

I have always preferred vehicles (of any type) with zero depreciation - all of mine have specific uses and (you probably wont believe this) all get my best care and attention - they all have a role and I could not do without any of them - the Ferraris I use for hill climbs and sprints and have a hard life, the little Rascal van ( a design icon in my opinion ) is such a useful little thing and I am very glad I rescued it from its impending fate of being broken up, and rebuilt and repainted it. I dont know how my wife would get on without her Land rover during the winter - its done sterling service for the last ten years. So I would like to say - horses for courses - or, take the right vehicle for the job !

It surely is the most ugly thing ever made :-), really weird. Even FIAT gave up and re-designed the successor :-)

Feel free to drive what you want, but what a programme- the most beautifull car ever made in the garage AND a Multipla :-)

... and I even own a Hillman Imp, so I am not free of, well, troubles, myself.... :-)

... In my Case, it's an Imp kit - a Concept Cars Centaur mk1.... Some say ugly some say brillant. It's a 1969 Probe 15 derivative.

But here in Germany it's very very rare. In fact we have 3 of them, this one is original and Drives.....

Wonderful reading this thread. In hindsight, some of the predictions of doom and gloom were right - but five years out. Prices of E-types have dropped, but as for the 250 GTO, I have no idea and nor do most of us since I believe only one has come to auction in the last ten years at least. Most deals are private. But on the subject, Nick Mason bought his on the profits of Dark Side of the Moon and paid £25,000. Oh, and if you like rock, he's touring again with his new group called A Saucerful of Secrets.

Seen the Aussie group three times, and the last time (April 2019) they had vastly improved, the light show lasers being exceptional, and they have gone back in time to the more technical music of the early days, plus of course the standards. I have seen the originals three times between the 70's and the last time was I think about '92 when A Momentary Lapse of Reason came out.
