#1 Wheels & Tyres - S2 FHC

Post by AshM » Mon Feb 06, 2017 5:08 pm

Was looking for any recommendations for tyre suppliers and wheel checks for my S2 FHC.

My ideal would be to have wheels professionally checked over and then new tyres fitted and wheels balanced.

Wheels look fine (as do tyres) but car has done very very low mileage over the last decade or so but this is all about to change this summer hence the decision for wheel checks and new rubber.

Edinburgh-based but prepared to travel for the right people. Could even arrange to have them transported further afield for the right service.

Any advice?

Hi Ash......if your tyres are over 10 years old i dont think that you will get anyone to commit that they are ok to use so you need to decide if you are prepared to use them even if they have full tread and look nearly new or replace them...

AshM, I sourced Vredesteins 185HR15 from Vintage Tyres in Beaulieu who then shipped them to a local vintage car company who have a bubble level for balancing. Most modern tyre fitting companies can't decently balance wire wheels, so look for a company that has a bubble level. Maybe chat to local car restorers for suggestions?
Some others on here will recommend Pirellis or Michelin, but they are much more expensive and the Michelins scored lower than Pirelli or Vreds in a recent test shown somewhere on the forum.
Sorry, too far from Edinburgh to recommend anyone local to you.
Wheels can be looked at by MWS or Phil Hallewell who can repair or replace complete wheels.

Hope this might help a bit.
