Genuine, as the press release came out on 31 March. £285,000 for a fully restored car plus more for 'sensible upgrades'. They are only doing 10 per year and their USP is that all parts will be bit perfect to original specifications. Good luck with that given most parts will come from the usuals!

Am i wrong or.........the one shown is rhd but they say its a lhd US car.......so your not buying an original anything its a lhd conversion........nothing wrong with that for all the guys here on tbe firum that have converted.... but how can JLR call it original

I found it interesting that JLR went for a numbers matching car, obviously they think its important?

I can see the mechanics at JLR wondering around their workshop when they get a delivery of parts saying these are crap, you have to fettle everything to make it fit, welcome to our world

On the link you posted the last sentance...This LHD S1 3.8 Roadster has recently been renewed and sits with a £238,000 asking price, for examples. Get in line now! and the photo shows a rhd

I think it means to show that the JLR cars starting at £285k are good value when compared to this LHD example which is highlighted.

A video on the Jaguar website shows the restored car with LHD. I don't think the gear lever gaiter is 'correct' for a May '65 car though. Shouldn't it have a rubber boot ?

I saw the car in person a few months ago and caused a momentary panic. I was being shown round by the guy in charge and suggested it would be awkward if the car stuttered to a halt for no obvious cause. I said it was very unlikely, but the risk was there and it was visible from where we were both standing. To his credit he started looking but eventually gave up. The problem was the usual 'wrong-way' fuel filter.

He didn't buy it at first, but quickly came around when I showed him that a nearby unrestored FHC still had the original style doughnut filter fitted. Seeing is believing, so he immediately told his minions to buy a correct part that would leave any gunk visible in the bowl and not hidden inside the element. With a brand new tank there wasn't going to be loads of debris in the fuel system, obviously, but few years later if the tank coating started flaking or someone filled it from a dirty jerry can? Who knows. Anyway, they deliberately set the bar high by making the 'factory-built' claim, so they can't afford to have their customers hearing the bad news at some village concours...

Jaguar have to follow the McLaren/Eagle philosophy and insist owners sell their cars back to them to protect values. The McLaren F1 never ever appeared on the s/h market, ditto Eagle Sports. You will not see either for sale outside the companies concerned.

Great marketing but don't expect it to reflect on the values of our cars.

It makes it sound as if the world has been waiting for their services, and that restoring E-Types is a newly-discovered novelty.

I had understood that many highly-specialised companies had been doing this very well for decades.

Their cars will presumably be restored in exactly the same way as everyone else is doing, using the same parts from the same suppliers with the same fit issues, and faced with the same shortage of skilled staff.

There is an upside - our beavering away in our workshops is apparently more trending and on-message than I thought.
