I just found an old auction catalogue buried in my office. It dates from 1999, and among the cars listed is a restored Series II in "good to very good" condition (presumably an 'older restoration'). The estimated sale price is £12,000 - £16,000. I've been looking on eBay for a time machine but there don't seem to be any for sale right now :-(

I've also been looking for a "wayback machine," so that I can return to 1982 and buy my first Series One FHC for $2,500 again. Guess we all get lucky in life--once...

Looking through the rest of the 1999 catalogue, it's nteresting to note how different cars have gone up in value. Morgans seem barely to have moved - there's one listed for £12,000 to £15,000. Astons, on the other hand, have gone up beyond all recognition - there's a DB6 listed for £25,000 - £28,000. That would be worth at least ten times as much today, which I find particularly galling, as I sold one ten years ago for £41,500, thinking the bottom was about to drop out of the market. I bought it completely dis-assembled but with a rebuilt engine for £4,750 in 1987.
