Once a year each of my cars requires an MOT. The Honda goes to a Honda main dealer, primarily to keep the service record 'official'. The RAV being the daily hack, goes to my local village garage to support the local business, and the E goes to the only guy I know who uses an accelerometer to test the brakes rather than the brake tester (which strains the LSD). This week it was the RAV's turn, and as in previous years one of the grease monkeys came out for a brief conversation. It is the same every year.
"You've got that E-Type, haven't you, that red one?" I have the only E-ype in the village at the moment, although that wasn't always true. Briefly, the owner of a family inherited S2 2+2 lived here too. And for many years a Jaguar specialist lived here, often driving souped up Es and Mk2s, some of which he raced.
"I've got a signed photo of a red mark one E-Type coupe, signed by Nornam Dewis and Sterling Moss. It looks just like yours." So far I haven't indicated I am interested in buying it, mainly as my 2+2 isn't quite the same shape as his photo's 'mark one' E-Type. But also because I dont know whether he has a photo of a signed print, or a signed print of a photo. The difference is important. I did once suggest that he provide me with a snap on his phone, so I might help him find a buyer. But he declined. We will have the same conversation next year.
