#1 1972 photo of yms34 e type

Post by Wellenkamp » Sat Aug 26, 2017 4:44 pm

Thought this might be of interest to the car's current owner, the photo was taken in Reading,Berkshire and was in the local paper, the car seems to have changed colour now.

That is a very odd looking E type . It looks as though it is an S2 rear end, ( albeit with oblong number plate ) with S1 rear lights above the bumper grafted on ?

Looks a complete wreck to me. Filler cap missing, bonnet protruding on nearside (or passenger door pushed in):

Doubt it is an S2 given the age of the other vehicles in the photo which also brings into question the 1972 date of the photo

...... and is that number plate black characters on a light coloured background?

Also, tail lights seem very closer together.

Tried to improve the photo:

Image

Black on yellow plate would be post January 1973 but it could be a red on white trade plate although it would not have kept that reg number.. DVLA say the car is a 3.8 manufactured in 1962 and is now Green in colour. MOT'd and insured.

David - why "post 1973"? Black on yellow rear and black on white front plates were certainly around in the late 1960's....

Yes, of course - the 1973 date was when they became compulsory. Trials started in 1964: http://www.sct61.org.uk/tvd7 The regulations allowing white reflective front plates and yellow rear plates came into effect from 20/12/1967, and this style of plate became compulsory on new vehicles from 1/1/1973

So the photo is from 1968 onwards.
