#1 Your suggestions please

Post by S90ttb » Fri Sep 15, 2017 8:53 pm

Hi all I have a series 2 2+2
So it turns out I have the wrong bonnet on my car, which I prefer (series 1.5 ) and I already knew the engine had been changed ( so not matching numbers car but still 4.2 with documentation of purchase and change ) it also was repainted in the wrong colour  , please stay with me on this
I had/have full intentions of returning the car to original colour and condition ( primrose yellow ) but because of the issues am now unsure and am wondering weather to stick with the 1.5 bonnet and paint it in a more desirable colour/trim as I have to do the work anyway
my intention with the car is to enjoy it for a few years after completion but then knowing me with itchy feet will want to change it ( probably for an ots and start again) would you suggest staying with original or more desirable combination ? Thanks Scott

Up to you. Maybe in saying you prefer the look of the bonnet you have you have answered your question....build the car you want....colour, bonnet....etc

Hi..Whats your name..please try to put it in as a signature with your model number.......if your keeping the car then do it as you want......if your going to sell on then being a 2+2 the same as mine it is the least valuable model so added cost now will cut you possible profit on resale......but these are decisions you need to make .. Hi Steve
Have edited my signature
I suppose my question is if I stick with the bonnet and change the colour would it devalue the car or is it worth me finding the correct bonnet and painting back to original colour
I want to enjoy the car for a while but don't want to do all the work and then find out I have devalued it and is difficult to sell when the time comes
Thanks in advance for any advice

Hi Scott.......the important thing is that whatever you do, do it well......if its in very nice condition it will sell.......

I don't believe a change in colour devalues a car unless you're looking real top end concours. Not sure about the bonnet - some people are a bit sniffy about originality of body shape.

I assume you liked the car as it is when you bought it so leave it alone and enjoy it.

Stuart

Do it the way you want to to enjoy it, hopefully then, you might keep it a little longer than 6 months when finshed to enjoy all your hard work and money spent on it.

I plan to keep it for at least a couple of years after completion and I bought it as a project but still undecided, the other colour I like is the metallic grey with red leather but unsure if they even done a series 2 2+2 in that combo

Hi Scott...the one warning i would give is that if you are going to change the colour you have to do the whole thing, bonnet inside, engine frames, bulkhead, the lot.......if you dont it just look like a poor job and an instant way yo reduce the sale price

Hi Steve
My plans are also to replace the frames, so engine out etc anyway
so it will be a full paint ( I intend to go the whole 9 yards which is why it's such a big decision for me)

Scott,
As the car does not have the original engine and therefore is a non matching numbers car, I would not worry about keeping the original colour (primrose yellow) especially as you are "going the whole 9 yards" and painting / replacing engine frames etc
Gunmetal grey with red interior is a great colour combo and very popular at the moment.

Scott, if you're happy with the bonnet then you can always change the back end to Series 1 (see monocoque-metalworks.com). If your car is already a mixture then there'll be no harm in doing that change too. You might even end up with a car more saleable than the present hybrid
