MX5 Seat Problems

I bought some MX5 seats for £300. For my latest secret e type project.

Leather heated black seats. Perfect condition.

Big problem with them though. The rest of the MX5 is still attached.



So it took it round the block. 1.8 150 bhp, 6 peed manual, drives like new. Lovely handling. New hood new tyres.

Runs like a sewing machine with 80,000 miles.

Have we become such a disposable society that car car as nice as this could be in effect thrown away.?

I cant break it, It is basically better than a £30,000 late Lotus Elan, for £300.

Fashion is a fickle thing.

I think the poor little car will live.

Yeah the MX5 is a great little car. Especially the early ones.

Right car, wrong seats. The ones you needed are the earlier versions with the separate headrests. Polish the car, detail under the bonnet, sell it on eBay to Autotrader as a potential show winner for £2,500, and pocket the profit.

Thanks boys, I am glad I bought the wrong car. I don't feel so guilty about not destroying it, if that makes sense.

It is off to the painters for £200 of bumper repairs at the weekend, so its future is assured.

When resold it will be more money in the E type war chest. Unless my dad fancies it for a bit.

Great little cars, Alty Ian and his son Steve who restored a 4.2 ots on here have gone on to buying one (mx5) and racing it in the MX5 Championship as their next adventure.

Yes they are great apart from one thing.

They rot worse than a 1960's Ford Anglia, seriously, Mazda gave them no rust-proofing. Zero. They all have rusty rear wheel arches as a minimum. The repair panel is about £75 a side.

I saw a 54' plate one last week in my friend Nigels Mercedes workshop. It has just been bought by a customer for £1,500 for his daughter. The front chassis legs were literally crunchy. Amazing. It has now "gone".

This one looks OK on the face of it. I will take the under pan off it and have a look properly at the weekend.

Does it have the Wankel engine? Neat little cars. Why did the previous owner sell it so cheap?
I have a Rover 200 Vi for a runabout. It is a stunning little car - 143 bhp, variable valve timing. I've never had so much fun on four wheels. It was the reason I sold my Aston DB6 - the Rover is so much more fun to drive - made the Aston feel like a lorry by comparison.
My Rover is 1997 vintage and it has no rust on it. I sort of 'stole' it - it belonged to the daughter of some friends of ours and her boyfriend. Long story but it turns out he had been ripping her off for years and one night she walked out on him. But he kept the car, which had been bought with a personal loan in her name, so he had the car & she had the debt.
Fortunately she had a set of keys, so we went down there one night and 're-possessed' the car. I was the getaway driver, and on the journey home I just fell in love with it. I paid off the debt and kept the car. That was ten years ago & I'm still driving it.

Except it looks like a pimp's car - tinted windows all round (every time I see a police car I have to quickly wind the front windows down!). Lowered suspension. Go-faster exhaust that sounds ggrrreat. Driven like I stole it. Hardly the image of a Rover though.
