Hmm, I'm in the process of removing an SBC motor and TH350 from a 1966 2+2 and reversing the butchery to the gear tunnel.

Presumably if imported here, DVLA would put the car straight on to a Q plate?

It will be interesting to see what it fetches but my guess is considerably less than it cost to put together.

I'm not against restomods as such, and a V8 E Type is an experience, just not an E Type experience. Taken on its own terms, it seems to have largely been executed very nicely, but that gear lever, product and placement, is pure bork!

I dunno - I'm open-minded. It seems to have been very well done (apart from that shifter lever!). These LS motors seem to be all the rage - a lot of classic American cars are being 'upgraded' with them, so they must be pretty good. It would be interesting to see how it drives. I'm not crazy about 'originality' like some people. There are plenty of E Types around to experiment with.
Unfortunately Mecum don't give estimates for their auctions, but I'll be watching this one with interest, as it lists two vehicles identical to mine; a 1960 Impala convertible and a 1963 Corvair.
How anybody can understand these American auctioneers is beyond me - and Mecum's are the worst. Completely unintelligible. I'm in Florida at the moment - far enough away from Las Vegas to keep me out of temptation's way.

Are you thinking about an LS engine for the Corvair, Hugo?

Not for me - too modern & computer-dependent. The Corvair flat 6 is a lovely little engine with nice characteristics - very popular in aircraft. Mine is only about 100 bhp with a two-speed automatic but it drives very well. I saw a pic of a Corvair engine in a motorcycle once!

On the whole, I'm not against restomods and I can see some attraction in dropping an LS3 or similar into an American muscle car or similar and would certainly consider doing it. If I thought my daughter would be staying another couple of years in Chicago I would consider doing just that and leaving it in her garage for me to play with during visits.

However, I just think it is wrong to do it to an E-Type. Its like swapping a rapier for a broadsword.

More tasteless American lumping drivel. Still trying to understand why anyone would do that. One of the best things about an E is the XK engine. It's not like I have one to butcher myself!

Somebody please remove the can of paint thinners from the vicinity of the people in question, I believe too much of the stuff may have gone up their nose.
