Hi all. Now I know there are some detractors out there so please no comments . I am wanting to fit a webasto sunroof to my series 1 2+2 and I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with.
Can anyone recommend a suitable installer and I'm prepared to travel for the right one(I'm in Cotswolds)
What questions should I be asking.
How should the headliner be finished.
Is there a special length for an E-type.
Any help wecome

I think you are being unfair to a very well meaning group of detractors!

Suggest you visit the Webasto web site, choose one of their installers local to you and go from there. They have a complete range of new products so any advice from us is probably not going to apply. The E-Type is not listed so it will be a custom job based around their options list if they will be prepared to do it at all.

Simon : I had one for 16 years, and despite their jokey reputation as a "wet bastard" sunroof, I never had a drop of water through it in all that time, and it is very pleasant with it open

However, I should warn you of two things

i.it increases the wind noise levels at speed, open or shut, quite markedly

ii.more seriously, if you are very long in the body, the 2 inch/50mm depth of the wooden surround for it is very intrusive . This may not be so much of a problem in a 2+2 but in my FHC I had to have the roof open nearly always, and stick the top part of my head through it!!

A bit of a trek but they are good,http://www.polyfacto.co.uk/. I used to work for them many years ago. If the webasto is fitted properly there is no reason why it should leak, that is generally why they leak, cause of bad fitment.

Thanks for all comments.I have ended up with Mr 'webasto' himself,Peter Harvey and he's coming to fit in a couple of weeks.Sounds as though the job will be spot on but will let you know!

As promised a follow up on the webasto.I am delighted and really impressed with the finished article .The new headliner is superbly finished off and although a wee bit stiff at the moment, the hood works well and it's huge-a real roof off feel.Can't wait to try it out(bottom hose went the other day so silicone ones are going on this time)and see what the changes are like.Just waiting for the bill now!

Hi so a few years down the line do you still have your 2+2 and happy with the webasto?

I have a 2+2 with a Webasto, and love it. It's never leaked, and with the wind deflector up, I can drive at 80mph on a motorway with the roof open without too much noise. With the wind closed, I hear no extra noise until I hit about 100mph (at track days only of course!) when there is a tiny bit of wind whistle.
One tip - keep the runners greased to keep the roof sliding smoothly.
