DVLA records it as being maroon, untaxed since 1980 and having no MOT. What's the chance it was uninsured as well?

When I bought my last motorbike, some 20 years ago, bikes were regularly stolen, mostly for the parts business. I fitted a system called Datatag, which consisted of a number of small transponders that were hidden inside parts of the bike, and two different marking systems to chemically etch a serial number on the plastics, metal and glass components. I also fitted a compact alarm, similar to the one I've fitted to the E.

Now my car is worth stealing, it is time to fit the car version of Datatag to the E. It'll be £100 very well spent. NA.

I stand corrected, (typed in a 6 instead of a 5).

Maybe thats why a reward has been offered a month after it was stolen ....

Afraid you're probably right Steve. Mine has to be in the garage if within a mile of my address over night. Mine would not have been covered. The fact that it was there just that particular night suggests to me it was planned based on a tip off from somewhere...the thieves knew the car would be there.....

Assuming the owner was the person who paid £99,680 for it just 2 months previously in an Historics auction, then he/she must be pretty gutted...

That's because when you took out your insurance, you stated that your car is kept in a garage overnight.
Because the stolen car was kept in storage, I assume the owner does not have a garage at his address.
So hopefully it will have been insured.

Interesting that the reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of whoever did it - not for the successful recovery of the car itself.

Cynic that I am, this all seems a bit odd to me. It could just be the owner is new to cars or "cultural heritage sectors" (as defined by Art Recovery International!). In turn:

Storage: If the storage was nearby why would you take it out the day before? The car cover seems a bit like a chocolate fire-guard but does mean that someone was passing with a flat bed lorry and stopped to check what was underneath... It could have been hot wired of course but starting the car in freezing conditions could have taken a while! As a London based owner there are plenty of places I would not park my car and a well known cut through near Denmark Hill station is one of them. Especially without any extra security.

Weather: Would you really leave a £100k classic out on the road in London, in freezing winter conditions? Especially when you've paid for a proper storage facility. Checking the weather for that weekend the over nights were listed as -1 c to 1c. On this basis there is a high probability that the roads could have been gritted too. Rural areas would have had lower temps so well below freezing...

Insurance: I'm sure you can get insurance to leave the car on the road but the premium will reflect the risks.

Recovery method: As pointed out by others the reporting seems back to front, or just naive. Did the insurers instruct Art Recovery International? Nothing reported on the databases and then nothing announced for over a month.

Hope they got the car back and the £ offer is solely to catch the bu$$ers.

Mark

Art recovery international's website is quite interesting. The man ( Marinello ) mentioned in the ad as being in Italy actually describes himself as a New York lawyer of sorts although he has a Surrey address also. There are blogs relating to items apparently recovered . The blogs are in some cases nearly incoherent - that relating to the Crivelli case ( whatever that is ) is a particularly fine example . The website states that the company is a trading name for Art Recovery Group plc . Very interesting, as this was only registered in 2014 and even more interestingly was struck off the register on 4th April 2017 ! I would require a whole host of explanations before I had anything to do with this outfit , and I do wonder what this "theft alert" is actually about

I did wonder if it was some sort of advertising scam. Or worse.
