The more I look at E-Types the more I keep finding 2 seat FHCs. I had always assumed they were 2+2s. What was the idea behind just 2 seats, was it just an American market thing or more general? Was the 2 seat option available in all 3 series?

Hi Colin.....S1 & S2 FHC are all 2 seats.......S1& S2 2+2 are all 4 seats....2+2 should not refered to as fhc......S3 either come an an ots or a 2+2..... There is not a S3 fhc (2seats)....and S3 2+2 should not be refered to as fhc.....Steve

Jaguar referred to the Series 3 as OTS and 2+2 FHC.

The e type was conceived as a two seat sports car. The 3.8 is only available as a two seater FHC or OTS. jaguar realised there was a market for the man with young kids who still wanted an e type so they stretched the FHC and made it a 2+2 early in production of the 4.2. So most of the 4.2 cars ( series 1 and 2) were available in two seat FHC and OTS and as 2+2 in FHC only. When the series 3 came out they dropped the 2 seat FHC so the series three cars are two seat OTS and 2+2 FHC.
