#1 Advice as to how far my clutch should disengage

Post by Dennismo » Fri Mar 16, 2018 12:28 am

I just rebuilt my 1969 all synchro transmission because the clutch master cylinder clevis fork hole was worn massively oval meaning that my clutch pedal at rest was too close to the floor. This meant that when my clutch pedal was pressed, the clutch was not disengaging enough. The synchros wore out in less than 10,000 miles.

My question is as follows. With your engine idling and warm, gearbox in neutral, and clutch pedal pressed down to the floor, how far (in inches) can you let the clutch pedal out before you hear the gearbox layshaft rotation noise start?

The reason I ask is that I had a machine shop fix up the clevis fork ovaled holes, but I think they did not drill the new holes in the fork far away enough from the Master cylinder.

I hope this is clear! If not, please tell me.

Thanks in advance

Dennis 69 OTS

Try fiddling with the adjustable fork on the clutch slave first.

If I adjust for proper free play I have 1/4 inch off floor before transmission is engaged.
