#1 Interior chrome edging strip

Post by paulsco » Sat Apr 07, 2018 9:11 am

Hi,
Does anyone have a supplier for the plastic chrome edging strips used on the interior trim panels on the FHC?

Failing that, I know that there are some generic plastic trims available; is it just a U shaped channel, or does it have some shape to it and can you tell me what size section is it?

There were none on my car when I bought it, so I have nothing to compare it with.

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks Steve,

Not good news for me then, unless the chrome strips are available.

I can't find them at any of the usuals and no part numbers as far as I can tell.

Hi Paul...use the parts catalogue to find the part numbers..also specify exactly what you want and post in tne wanted section....i have heard that some have used the thin bonnet chrome strip for the cant rails... Steve

Hi Steve,

What I ment was that there is no part number for the chrome trim; there is for the cant rail etc, but not the individual parts.
I have some old bonnet chrome trim, which I am going to replace. I will try this to see if it fits and buy some new if it does.

Thanks for your help.

GB Classic Trim told me about a year ago that acceptable replacement chrome trim for the cantrails was impossible to find. There is plastic stuff with some sort of chrome inner layer but it doesn't look good. Some PO managed to put a big kink in one of my cantrail trims and GB are going to straighten is as carefully as they can.
Using bonnet trim sounds possible but how would you form the curves?

Thanks Steve; sorry about that, I should have looked more closely at the parts manual.

Jeremy,
I was thinking of trying it out on a piece of old bonnet chrome that I have. I was just going to try to ease it over a curved surface, but you have made me think that perhaps I should support it down the centre first with perhaps a bit of welding rod.

I will let you know how I get on.

Paul, would an option be to find a strip of metal that could be chromed after you've bent it to shape?
Especially if you use a shrinker/stretcher tool to bend the strip it would make a mess of any chrome already on a strip, but you could shape if nicely to fit, trim to size then send off for chroming.

Might work
