Hi all

I am working on a series of car illustrations which I am looking to turn into a limited run of prints and of course the e-type had to be one of the cars in the collection. Anyway the car is finished but I need help choosing the final colours for the prints. Can you please help tell me what the most popular e-type colours are and is there any specific e-types that are significant competition or road cars (like the gulf livery on a GT40)?

Here are 2 colours to get things going. I can change body colour, add number roundels and change wheel colour and am looking for may 3-5 colour choices as they will be limited to 200 prints per colour.

Opalescent Golden Sand - the connoisseur's choice.

So I was thinking maybe:

- Carmine red
- British Racing Green or opalescent dark green
- Opalescent silver grey
- Opalescent dark blue
- Black
- White

Would they be the most common colours?

Oddly the rarest colour was BRG followed by ODG. Green was not popular despite the racing heritage - something to do with bad luck apparently. In the UK you never painted a front door green!

Hmm interesting, shame E-types look bloody lovely in opalescent dark green I think

OK here are the colours I've done so far, what do you all think to these?

Opalescent light blue was a very common colour in the mid-sixties. It was the time of Donald Campbell's Buebird. I was in CMC friday and saw 4 series 1 / 1.5s in that colur. Not to mention that wedding car..
The illustrations look great, BTW, But where did you start with the original studio photo? Do you have your own studio?

Gunmetal is a good choice. 9600HP being that colour.

Also Carmen Red is not the same colour as Carmine Red, which I think was a BL colour and is a darker shade.

PS Opalescent Dark Blue gets my vote for obvious reasons.

Going to rework the green and may add silver/white. Would love some feedback on these and whether there would be any interest in people buying these. Planning to get some samples printed next week

I don't know if its my screen but the colours don't look quite right to me. The carmen red doesn't seem to have enough orange in it and the green and blue seem very light. Sorry to be negative, the actual pictures are superb. If you suggest a price you might get a good idea of uptake.

Tried adjusting the colours on the red. I agree it's more metallic almost burgundy in the original because the colour tone seems to work better. I've done another version so see what you think, I still prefer the original I think, even though it's not 100% accurate colour it is supposed to be an art print.

As for selling them, I need to speak to printers next week but hoping to sell them for around £15 each. They will be 50x50cm prints, so decent size and easy to frame.

They look terrific ...beautiful styling
I think the colours are great and the preciseness is not important ...this is art after all!

Two points:

1. The exhaust pipe is specific to a 4.2 L car with a shorter “bomb” and therefore longer “tail”
If you want to sell it to earlier 3.8 owners you could possibly change it on your design to have 2 versions.
It’s a small thing but it would make me more likely to buy one

2. Are you doing an open top car?

have you also thought of playing with a sepia tinted B&W pic of the E ?

I did some many years ago of my then red FHC and it produced a wonderfully atmospheric result

Hi all

I thought I'd give a quick update on where I am with my car print ideas and designs. I've been through a number of ideas and have been working hard on using 3D models rather than purely illustrating the cars to give a more realistic look to the car and the lighting. Here are a few quick test renders so you can see how things have been progressing



I've then been playing around with the composition and design and am getting closer to a style that I like and isn't so clinical in it's appearance so here are a few starter ideas I've been working on





Would love to know what everyone thinks to the latest designs. I am also looking at the possible option of print on demand which might mean I could offer personalised prints to match the print to the colour and reg of your car
