I overtook a large smoking Merc MPV, gunning it in third, went to change up once past and the rev counter went full scale as I dipped the clutch.
Luckily this was on a long straight stretch of road whereas the previous evening I had been out on some bendy but swift possible roads.
I lifted the bonnet to find the problem. Turned out the bowl cover fixing on the centre carb had loosened allowing the breather pipe to rotate after I had floored the throttle pedal and that stopped the throttles closing more than half way
Turned the breather back out of the way and drove home gently - no full pedal!! Now tightened the bolt properly, phew!!
