The registration document for my US import has just arrived from Swansea. Took 2 weeks from posting the completed form to receiving the V5.
All I sent with the completed document were; the original California title plus the Jaguar Heritage certificate. Plus the required personal proof of address etc. With a cheque of course.
No Mot, insurance or other proof of age.

Most of the application document doesn’t apply.
Off to buy so plates now !



Overall very happy today and this certainly makes up for trying to make my new glove box fit my new dash panel. 2 hours spent “adjusting “ these bits. The glove box lock doesn’t even mate with the locking catch.

Congratulations Tim, simple procedure indeed.
Talking about remanufactured parts, I share your feeling as I noted yesterday a fluid leak along the seam of the new brake bottle fitted only few months back, aarrrgh!

Nope no MOT required to register . But you will need one if you want to put a cherished plate on it

Spoke to DVLA a few weeks ago and advised me to send a V112 form in with application this is an official MOT exemption form which is simple to fill in.

Within 2 weeks of posting and yet to receive registration.

P.S. Geoff you can get your ots registered whilst it’s in bits!!

Never sent one in with my application and taxed the vehicle at the same time. Guess it can’t harm though.

I sent in the form, the cheque and the mot exemption form, but they have asked for a registration document for it’s time in Holland (it was imported from the US to Holland by the P.O). He didn’t register it as it was a non runner and one of several he had in a collection.
The DVLA have asked me to arrange for an inspection by a company called SGS. Anyone heard of them or been through this?

Hi Richard..yes have heard of SGS inspecting vehicles for DVLA...dont think you will have any problems...they are looking for cars that are not as described....anyone thats done a conversion or used parts not normaly used on that vehicle....i have heard its going to become more common.....a typical example would be trying to register as a roadster when it was originaly a 2+2.....or a major conversion that now looks like a lightweight....problem is ive heard that some of the inspectors wouldnt know the difference between a fhc or a 2+2.....no way around it now that they have you in their sights.... have also heard that as contractors to the DVLA they are going around various car shows/meets comparing vehicles/registrations to what the car actually is.....Steve

SGS are a worldwide inspection company that are probably No.1 in surveying cargos. I use them for my steel shipments sometimes. What I would question is whether they are suitably qualified to inspect cars to determine their history? I would make sure that you get a car specialist, not just a normal marine surveyor, they wouldn't have a clue.

Thanks to you both for the info.
I've just got off the phone to them and as you suggest, they will be checking the VIN & engine numbers to make sure that it is as described. I did highlight to them that the block and head are from a Nov 1963 E-Type, but do not match the certificate for my Nov 1963 E-Type. The chassis, gbox & body numbers do match though. Like you say, as long as the 'inspector' is classic car savvy then this should not be an issue. They said he would also take loads of pictures. Interestingly, when I told them that the body number would be hidden by the trim, they said they weren't bothered by that - just the engine/chassis no.s. Luckily, I do have US registration cards going back to 1970 with the chassis number on them so that will help.

Hi Richard...dont be to eager giving them more info than they ask for....iv heard of a case of a Kougar kit car changeing its engine and informing the DVLA who arranged an inspection....original engine on reg document was a 3.4.. the replacement was a 4.2....DVLA changed the registration of the car to a Q plate....Steve
