#1 Registering an old US import

Hi,

My car was imported into the UK from the US in 1990 by the previous owner and a C&E 386 was issued by Customs and Excise at the time.

I am told by the DVLA that I need a NOVA to register it.

I have logged on to the Government website to do this, but I only seem to be able to complete the on-line application if the car has been imported from the EU.

I emailed them for advice, but they haven't replied.

I dont know for sure if I will be able to convert the C&E 386 to a NOVA on-line, but I am unable to get that far to find out.

Can anybody advise what I need to do?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Mine was imported before NOVA, wrote to the HMRC with copies of shipping documents and they issued a NOVA certificate no charges incurred.

Even easier than that, scan your C&E 386 and email to this address:

ECSM.NCHCARS@HMRC.GSI.GOV.UK

I did this with mine 3 months ago and got my NOVA registration by 12:00, that was a 3 hour turnaround and fantastic service from a Judith @ HMRC. No charge.

I spoke to Eileen at HMRC in Ireland ,That's the branch that issues NOVA for cars from the states . My cert had a digit wrong.
Very helpfull much more than DVLA

Thank You Guys,

That is great news.
I will email them with a copy of the C&E 386.
