Ok, so it seems that I have to purchase a system for my 4.2. The choice seems to between Bell & Falcon. As being those that may fit my budget. ( I let my etype fabs system go when selling my previous car).

So - any thoughts on which is best ?

Depends on how you want it to sound. A standard 1.75" bore system can be had with either a baffled silencer or straight through. The latter will give you more power but also more noise which you might find annoying on a long journey. Jaguar Classic sell a complete mild steel system made to the original blueprints with chromed resonators for £775. The mild steel system sounds a lot nicer (and how an E-Type sounded back in the day) than the tinny sounding stainless steel system.

I have mild steel on my FHC and s/s on my OTS. The former has the Jaguar roar, the latter has a raspier sound, much like a modern sports car.

My car has a full Bell system, including manifolds. I don’t have any complaints with it.

I had a Bell stainless system which I fitted about ten years ago. The pipes didn't match up, and I've had to modify the connections rear of the main boxes. Some will say mild steel sounds better. I dont think so. Different, but not better.

As for sound, I'd go for straight through every time. Mine were conventional baffles, but I drilled through making them semi-straight through. By the time I am doing 70mph, the wind noise drowns out any exhaust noise, but the throaty noise at lower speeds is just right.

I was having a chat with another owner at the weekend on our Swiss eType Register 2 day tour.
He also has a Stainless steel exhaust. I raised with him the point about mild steel sounding better. He agreed and said the secret was to get thicker stainless steel and it will sound on-par with the mild steel system. His certainly sounded better than my stainless steel. He had the stock manifold headers and a 2 inch bore all the way to the back. Forgot to ask him regarding the mufflers.

Stainless Exhaust. I think I put the mic a bit close to it though!

I will have another go later in the week.

Total overload!

I have the Bell s.s. exhaust system, original manifolds and original mild steel resonators. The sound, to my ear, is awesome.

Ecosse motorsport exhaust . Ian is a very pleasant guy to deal with . The system is something of beauty and really should go on the top side of car  . And when it came to fitting a complete pleasure with a lot of adjustability built in to the design .... Yep big thumbs up
