#1 Heater comparison S3 Vs S1/2
There are various upgrades for the heaters on the S1 and S2, using Fiero parts, options from suppliers for new motors, fans and heater matrixes. But how does the S3 heater compare? The fan shroud is deeper and the fan looks deeper, though the same diameter. Is the heater matrix more substantial?
Anyone with experience of the S3 to compare with the earlier cars able/willing to comment?
Thanks
Geoff

Upgrading a heater in an E-type?
The whole of the front on the car is a heater!
Masses of heat just pours in to the cockpit from the engine bay. It is especially hot in a FHC.
Surely upgrading the heater in an E type would be like lighting a match in a volcano!
My next project is to heat insulate the cabin from the engine bay to try and get rid of a few Kw's of heat.
Koolmat seems to be the stuff.
I suppose a useful upgrade could be to direct a bit more heat at the windscreen on a cold morning, or maybe figure out how to add face level cold air vents.
Sorry!

DDon't disagree, but stronger fan would help demisting, and circulating cooler air.

There is also an option that directs the flow of air, be it hot or cold, more efficiently from the heater box into the bulkhead cavity. It’s a curved ‘funnel’ for want of a better description that sits inside the square bulkhead aperture.

Richard, thanks, I bought one of those from Clayton Classics at Beaulieu. It should help.
As I have an S3 heater, which with a bit of adjustment could fit an S2, then it seemed worth finding out from those who know whether it could work as an upgrade, with one of the curved deflectors and perhaps a newer matrix. But as the fan and fan case are bigger it seemed worth asking if anyone has experience to compare.

Geoff,
I have an upgraded heater matrix and fan (from Clayton I think) in my S3 FHC and for winter driving its marginal at best. The upgrade seemed to provide little improvement over the standard set up. I have not attempted any transplant on earlier models so can't help there but from reading all the posts on the Fiero and other mods it sounds to me as though they be a better way to go.
Cheers,

Adrian, thank you, that does help and from someone who at least can compare the Series.
Cheers, Geoff

On the S#, standard heater, in working condition, is just fine. The point has also been well put here.......don't need any more heat then you get from the V12 lump......my favorite motor in the whole world !!

Hi,
I have a Series 3 and a Fiero fan/motor, which has been awaiting fit for a very long time. As you guessed, the fan is too shallow so although I have ideas on how to modify the system, I know I can’t go back because I would have to modify the involute to match the new motor and it just might not be worth it.
I would like to increase the cooling air flow, rather than the heat flow, but occasionally, extra heat would be useful. I will report back if I ever decide to fit it, but don’t hold your breath.
Regards,
Simon
