Interesting modification to help cooling!

This E-type Jaguar was driven by Jochen Rindt, a status symbol of stylish racing. Austrian motorsport journalist Helmut Zwickl once paraphrased the first lines of Goethe?s poem Der Erlk?nig (?Who rides here so late through night and wind ? why, it?s the Jaguar of Jochen Rindt?) in reference to the competitive races Jochen Rindt and his friends used to undertake. The exacting demands of the 1970 Formula One World Drivers? Champion (awarded posthumously) brought to light the car?s technical idiosyncrasies: the powerful engine had performance aplenty. However the car had not been designed as a racing car, and its engine performance was often challenged. With Rindt at the wheel, the brake pads lasted an average of one week. Rindt prosaically alluded to the Jaguar?s weak points by praising his friend and mechanic Josef Borka: ?If it wasn?t for Joschi, I?d have to travel by tram.?

He used the car extensively to travel through Europe to various race meetings.

I'm curious about the inset grill at the front of the bonnet bulge and what it would achieve. Presumably it would be most effective at speed, and its contribution in slow traffic (when cooling of course is at a premium) would be minimal. At speed, what problem is it solving? Or did someone think it looked cool

Maybe he had one of these as a child and wanted to copy it :D

Strange but someone seems to think Jochen's E-Type was white

Maybe it was white originally, perhaps re-painted red after he had the bonnet modified. It also has an 'E-Type' badge on the rear and the panel gaps are not exactly amazing so it has been messed with.
