Educate me here gentlemen. Why would you even undertake a restoration on this poor old girl ? Parts car? But for over $40000 ? Seems to me, that if this hulk was gifted to someone, would in not take more in capital, and time, and labor, then this car will ever be worth ? Well best wishes, and lots of prayers to what ever brave, talented chap takes on this project !

No doubt a serious challenge but saveable so hopefully someone will do it.

As for the economics, in today's overheated market and diminishing numbers of cars to restore the numbers could stack up - it depends who does the work. When a set of front frames fetch $25,000 just to buy a registration in effect, then this seems comparatively good value

As for is it worth $44,000 - well let's see if anyone buys it.

I am so glad that , according to the vendor , the rot is not compromising the structure !!

In fairness, however, the car looks fairly complete, and not really any worse than most unrestored cars . Certainly worth saving in my view, but not, perhaps, at $44K

I'm currently looking for 2 S1 4.2 Roadsters to restore for customers. I think at 44k, for a complete car, it isn't too bad a price! Things have got out of hand for the Series 1 cars now and it won't be long before the S2 (better car in my view) follows suit!

Here in the States a full restoration on a car like that would likely run about $200,000. You would therefore be well underwater when you compare the all-in cost ($244k) with the going market price ($150-175k) of a nicely-restored Series 1 OTS. But, you can then enjoy the car for the next several years while the slowly-escalating market price catches up to the fixed costs. You also have the pride of knowing that the car was properly restored and preserved for future generations. That's why people buy these rough cars.

The fly in the ointment: this car is not matching numbers so it will never be worth what a matching numbers car can fetch. But it does have its original key so that's worth an additional $100!

I think the prices these project cars fetch reflect the fact that in many cases it isn't a financially rational purchasing decision. If certainly wasn't in my case. The satisfaction and enjoyment I have got from restoring my E Type, and now from driving the result, completely outweighs what it has cost. Others have different but equally expensive hobbies...
