#1 Registration and value

Hello everyone,

I've a question about registration plates and value if anybody can help.
We are due to register our car in Italy this spring because it spends most of its time there.
At the moment it has its original UK plate from 1965.
Does that have have a value when associated with the car, or is the value purely in the individual period plate?
I understand that 'matching numbers' refers to chassis, engine, gearbox... Does any of this extend to registration plates? I was thinking of keeping the plate on record if it did, just in case we ever wanted to bring the car back to the UK, or would that be largely pointless as i'd get assigned another period number?

Any guidance would be gratefully received.

Si

Good thinking !! Hold on to the plate, just in case. As for determining the value of your beauty, plate adds nothing. It does play a role in the 'wow' factor however !

Simone, the registration is not part of the "matching numbers", but keep it for your own interest and possibly bringing the car back to the UK.
What is the latest on the car?

Thanks for the responses everyone, that's put me straight, so thank you. The restoration is going ok thanks Geoff, as far as I know, haven't received any updated photos of the paint work that's due to be completed by the end of the month. Just ordered new seat covers, foams, centre console and new hood from Bas International, ready to send over to restorers in Italy. Bas are very helpful over the phone. Will post pictures when I get them...eek!

I used to have a 911 onto which I put a private plate, as had previous owners. Each time a private plate was removed the car returned to its original registration number. Maybe that would happen with yours although there is the possiblity that it might find it's way to a DVLA auction.
