A bit of research suggests George Best had "a series of E-Type Jaguars" yet no pictures of him with one. The August 1997 issue of 'Classic & Sportscar' did run an article where he was re-united with one of them (presumably the one owned by Eagle):

An interesting article from 2009 by the auction house ARTFACT when selling George Best memorabilia. The damaged number plate GGF 379J which the garage had retained from GEORGE BESTS 1971 series3 v12 coupe. some pictures exist of Best in the car and outside his mothers home from 1971 and 72 but none yet found showing the reg number though it is shown with him driving in a tv film

The one you mention is an earlier model.
It seems George Best changed cars regularly possibly at reduced cost as advertising for the mark owing to his high profile and the one from mid. 1971 GGF 379J still exists. Dark blue in reasonable running condition.

#7 George Best

Post by happyold man » Thu Aug 16, 2012 9:44 am

Most men wish they had an E-TYPE and George Best was one of the fortunate men who could have the latest model. The half picture taken at night in the series 3 coupe with steel wheels and hub cap showing is I feel sure GGF 379J. It was one of the first of this model and probably used to promote the 2 plus 2 with the big engine. The photo seems to have been cropped to hide the number probably trying avoid damage from souvenir collectors. There is a picture taken outside his Mothers home with the same car that also has the number missed off.

The car in the film seems to be VPF 247G S1.5 with bullet mirrors.

Wonderful film and many thanks for making it available. Just shows why Jaguar made e-types so available to him, what a star player. The car shown in this film is the earlier 1969 model and also shown in the still picture as publicity shot with girl friend and George standing beside it. There must have been many pictures taken and a lot of films about George Best that show his cars though it seems the later press ones hardly ever show the reg numbers.

Been off the net for a while so unable to answer. Yes watched the second half and very much enjoyed.
Re the George Best E Type V12 reg. number GGF 379J it is clearly shown on the DVD " The official George Best story". when after being left out of the team for a cup match he had a fall out with Tommy Docherty the Manchester United manager and the video shows George getting into the car and driving out of the Man. U. ground for the last time. The number plate is very clear to see.
He owned GGF 379J from 1971 to 1973 since that time it has been both neglected and cared for but has covered very few miles.
It is a 2 plus 2 V12 Automatic in dark blue with velour seating not a top show car but in fine running condition and if only petrol was cheaper I would use it as my everyday car.
regards
John

Been on the road a long time with some very nice cars. Still have quite a few of them to play with. Very glad that there is no satnav telling me where the road ends.
