#1 Jaguar dealership in Andover.

Post by Paul Jorgensen » Thu Jun 27, 2019 7:54 pm

Hi All,
I recently purchased a CUD torpedo growler key fob. I carefully cleaned the leather fob to reveal what looks like the dealership details on the back of the fob.

What I have revealed is very very faint but I think it reads.

————gs of Andover ltd
(phone)Andover —————

The phone in Bracket is more a guess as it is very faint.

Would anyone know if there was a Jaguar dealership in Andover in the mid 60s - mid 70s where this key fob may have started life.

Hi
Yes, Henlys. They had dealerships in a number of towns and cities.

Hi Richard,
Thank you, I like the picture of the Henlys dealership, most of these dealerships have long gone along with any info of them.
I have just looked at the key fob again and the dealership name definitely ends with, ————gs. so it is not Henlys. Does anyone know if there Was “Longs” in Guildford, or something that ends with gs..?

Cheers Paul

Whoops.... I meant Andover not Guildford, I don’t know where that came from. Can’t even blame it on being blonde anymore as that went grey a while ago 😂🤣

Paul - my 1967 dealership directory shows "Andover Garages Ltd., Town Station Yard, Andover 3783" and 2326 for the recovery service. Accept that isn't quite matching....

Paul - sometimes, if you take a digital photo and play with the contrast etc., it will help to show more of the faint detail. Might be worth a try?

The only Dealer ending ...gs in the 1968 directory is Kennings. They were in London, Shropshire, Staffs and Essex. Maybe at some time they owned the Andover Garage ?

Possibly Gowrings, they seem to have had different garages/dealerships in the area

Red kite, John
Thank you for your replies. Hopefully I have attached a picture of the key fob.

Gowrings is a possibility but as you can see it is very faint!!!
