Hi well after having my E on the road for just about a year now , I thought I'd comment on the super spoke quick release steering wheel ,........ yep it's a thumbs up from me , the wheel is basically taken off every time I exit the car , as well as handling some vigorous drift lock to lock movements and is still working a treat with no slopeness from the master Ball retaining system ....... and seeing as it's ( I think ???) the cheapest of the QR OE looking bosses out there I defiantly would recommend

Are you mad?! What use could any E-type owner ever possibly have for a quick relea.......

Not if you've got a really good friend with a lathe and a spare bit of billet aluminium.

Standard Racetech or Lifeline 70mm pcd FIA approved quick release inside a nicely turned housing. Total cost £109 and a few beers.









Next job is to make a boss with a lock that goes over the splines when the wheel is off and spins so you can't put a couple of mole grips on to steer it. I've even been looking at the tiny alarms that are incorporated into motorcycle disc locks.

Now you know why it's taking so long to finish the car All good fun though.

Hi Simon....looks very good......assume your going to weld the Racetec splined adaptor onto your existing upper shaft........the upper column still adjustable but how will you keep the new made boss inplace....I assume it needs to just float so that you can pull it towards the driver to release the wheel.......Steve

I have another spare Jaguar splined top shaft that will be machined to accept the Racetech splined shaft. We use a company for work who are aerospace certified welders so I will give that to them.

The new aluminium "actuator" sleeve has been machined to fit perfectly over the actuator collar of the Racetech boss. Initially I had intended to Loctite them together but will now use 3 of m4 grub screws to allow future disassembly of the components in the unlikely event that the Racetech boss needed repair or replacement.
All built up, the bossitself has a really nice quality feel to it.

I have also converted the horn push to accept a small transmitter so I now have the novel and perhaps unique ability to sound the horn without the steering wheel being on the car. Some might consider this a cool feature, others, (my son and wife) totally unnecessary. I dread to think what a former member would make of It.

I'll post more pics in the other quick release thread once it's all built up and installed in case anyone is interested in this approach. In the meantime, this weekend's job is templating and making door cards noting your advice to make them slightly shorter in height.
