I found my body number written in hand with a pencil above the speedo on the reverse side of the dash
Also the other dash side too
Also had “Tan” and “OG”, the interior and exterior colour

Same on my 63 fhc, plus yellow crayon on the inside of the rear hatch, behind the trim.

I am a little puzzled about all this. Has this ( apparently very expensive ) E type gone back to the USA ? And why would it be sold on Bring a Trailer which I thought was a sort of "banger" operation ?

Hi Christopher...as far as im aware bring a trailer now has some very up market cars......the basis of the story is the original poster above sent of for a heritage cert(not for the car above).but for his own car.....when he recieved it the the body number was one out from the tag on his car.....he searched xkedata and found the car shown above....so we have two cars with the same body tag number......the car shown above i assume is possibly still in the UK ....hope this helps..Steve

Mine is an OTS and, in addition to the same marks behind the dashboard, it was also written on the underside of the original Hoodbag (together with the colour of the hoodbag).

My car has a discrepancy with its body number.
The JDHT certificate says 4E24142, but the label behind the number plate says 4E26142.
When I queried it with JHDT they said it was probably a simple error made by the bloke who did the stamping and is not uncommon.
Apparently the stamped number is for a later 1967 FHC car. Given the there is only one digit different it all seems plausible, and particularly because all the other numbers on the car appear correctly.

Numbers problems. I have a very early rolling chassis fhc with no ID. I thought I had it sorted when I found a body number. Checked with JDHC and that number is listed as a Roadster that's registered in Sweden.
With the passage of time strange things happen to these cars.
