The 'E' Type Forum

Hi guys,
I going to write a paper on the design of our wonderful cars, focusing on how and why the design came about. I'm planning on using this for my design and engineering class to show them how the design stands out from the rest of the cars in that era. So If anyone has any info, leads or link that could help please could you put them up here. Thanks guys.

It is a basic law of persuasion (aka sales), that the more senses you involve, the more memorable and powerful the message. Therefore, beyond your voice and pictures you should take the car in that day and have tgem smell leather and oil, touch warm alloy and curved steel. You’ll have to figure taste out for yourself.

I suspect that Malcolm Sayer joining Jaguar in 1950 provided the key ingredient to the shape of the car. There is a short but useful tribute to him in the front of Philip Porter's 'The Iconic E-Type'. The shape of the Alfa Disco Volante was possibly an influence on Sayer (Porter's 'The Definitive History', p35). Under the skin the XK engine and the independent suspension are also important ingredients in the overall appeal, as was the low price compared to Mercedes & Aston Martin.
