Hi all , a few years back one of the jaguar clubs used to run a day at a runway where top speeds were recorded via , police spec speed gun , if I remember correctly ???
A lot of E Types took part ,
So anyone know if this still happens , ?
Wouldn't mind getting involved

They do it daily on the M25 Darren and you even get a printout of your speed.

Woodbridge speed trials, I think, at RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk? Something like that. Overshoot the runway at full chat and you hit Rotterdam for the ferry home.

I know its not relevant-but me and my mate got 137 mph out of her last year before I had to jam the anchors on "The Ring". She still had plenty left to go she really did.

This is the engine that we tested the other day that is still squeezing 180psi on each cylinder. 50psi when warm.

The brakes were not to happy in the pits. Black smoke everywhere. They did recover when cooled though-100%.

Still cannot believe its a 50 year old car.

It was indeed the Woodbridge Speed trials and it was a great event. I bumped into the organisers of this event this weekend at the NEC and i did try and put some pressure on them doing it again but didnt have much luck! It was a husband and wife team who were in the military and so had some access to the runway and they did a great job. Maybe this is a good idea to resurrect as part of the 60th celebrations in 2021.
We would come along for sure - I have a long running score to settle with my sister who beat me in an XKR there about 12 years ago....

So we need someone with a military connection to lend us a runway ....
Or if we're talking anniversary top speed runs .......... we could always use the M1 like they did back in the day

You may be able to get a run at Millbrook. I did the bowl with a tutor from the High Performance Club and we got up to an indicated 150 mph although we subsequently found out the speedometer was under reading by 10%. The car was still pulling so would have gone faster but we decided we had reached our objective. This was with the standard Jaguar box, a 2.88 diff and a very strong engine. Not sure I would want to try it on the flat though.

Bruntingthorpe was great in the 90s I seem to remember, being the old bomber airfield with one ginormous straight.

I've driven a lot of cars at Bruntingthorpe, including an unrestricted formula 2000 single seater. Great fun.
