As I mentioned in another thread E-Type Fabs have developed their own electric power steering system for the E-Type. It has three settings off, half and full assistance. Nice bit of kit and costs ?1500 + VAT for a self install kit.
To quote Uryk:
"Our reliable compact unit is fitted onto the steering column and fits completely out of view in an area behind the dashboard. Absolutely no signs of the power steering unit is visible from either the cockpit or the engine bay.The system is torque sensitive so that it will only operate when you need it in slow steering or road conditions, it automatically returns to the natural weight and feel once road speed increases. The unit has an extremely low power consumption so you do not need to uprate your alternator/dynamo. Our unit also features a 'fail safe operation' so that in the event of a power failure the steering is still completely operable. Adjust-ability and movement of the steering wheel is retained and not restricted in any way."
As I (jokingly) said to Uryk - ideal for people who have ruined the E-Type steering by fitting wide wheels and tyres.
Now comes news of another company producing a similar product - EZ Electric Power Steering in the Netherlands: http://www.ezpowersteering.nl/index.php?p=0 No idea of price on an E-Type but I guess it will be similar to the ETF version. Review can be downloaded as a pdf here: http://www.ezpowersteering.nl/userupload/file/BMW.pdf
