Just bumped into this I assume the detail will be quite good

If you can afford to blow £9600 on a model, you could probably afford the real thing!

Isn’t amalgam what fillings are made out of?! Maybe that’s why it sits so low!
I bought a 1:1 911 for £2k less only 11 yrs ago so would struggle with that!

If you choose 'bespoke' (the colour you want) the price goes up go £12,570. Only 199 available so get in line.

I've been told (but not verified) that these are in resin, not metal. A good look at the seats seems to confirm this to my ageing eyes. Ans when I think that this cost under £400 in 1:12 I know which I prefer. In fact, all of these cost less than £1,000 combined.




This was a limited edition from Maisto (again in 1:12) over 20 years ago, and again from memory about £300:-





I suppose I ought to get them all down from the top of the bookcase and clean them again ;)

I wouldn't. By all accounts a bit of barn find dust actually increases their value!

There were only four OBL RHD FHC's and none of them were painted red. The optional display box/stand is an extra £2,500 so top of the book case is a bargain!

Yup! Dental amalgam is an alloy of silver, tin and other trace elements such as copper and zinc, delivered to the dentist in powder or pellet form and mixed at the time of placing the filling with mercury which binds with the other metals to form insoluble compounds as the amalgam sets. Over the past couple of decades, there has been a huge outcry from, in my opinion, alarmists about placing mercury in people's mouths. What they don't realize or ignore is that once mixed, there is no longer clinically significant amounts of the toxic free mercury because of the chemical reactions between the metals during the setting of the restoration. The analogy that I give to patients (understand that I'm a periodontist and do not place any restorations in my practice) is that chlorine is a deadly gas and sodium reacts violently when combined with water, but we couldn't live without sodium chloride in our bodies. Dental amalgam has been proved safe by numerous studies and not been linked to any medical conditions in spite of its having been used since the 19th century around the world. Pardon the long-winded response.

Stunning model and reasonably well detailed, but you'd be mad to buy it for nearly 10K

I often wonder how much my heavily modified 1:8 OTS is actually worth to a collector. True, it is not quite finished and the proportions are not absolutely bang on, but there's some hours gone into that and there's only one of its kind. Oh, and I really need to do the seats on it!









Then again, it's still just a plastic model kit...

Absolutely. One of my final year modules focused on bio-inorganic chemistry and my exam question was on the use of mercury in dental fillings. Fascinating stuff

Do remember that someone has to make the tooling for all of the separate parts. That's after they've hand made all of the original parts. Now add up the number of parts.

Unless it is all then committed to 3D printing, the tooling made for resin part production will start to degrade after about 10-15 imprints and the total run from any single piece of tooling will likely be less than 30 parts.

Now make the parts - and remember to charge for your labour.

Now make sure the parts look realistic and are correctly painted.

This is a totally different ball game from mass produced injection molded or diecast models.

Indeed, and annoyingly it will not fit very well the other way up at present! The recess in the floor doesn't line up with the middle of the wheel, but then again it's a custom build that never intended to have anything visible in the boot.

Some more head-scratching required there!

Marek, you do make a good point about this being a completely different ball game. I saw a few of these style 1:8 diecast models on the Jaguar stand in Geneva a few years ago and the quality is superb. You are indeed paying for the labour and commitment that goes into them.
