I have purchased the correct material from Woolies and fitted it a few times. You need a little box of single edge razor blades. They are extremely useful for many jobs. I have never bought a "kit".
You need clean hands. The "secret" is to chalk the center line on the material and also onto the roof. Then when you glue it up used this to guide you. Basically you glue the main piece in three maneuvers, center strip, left hand side then right hand side. Then you do the perimeter rail.
Cut the rectangular piece a bit oversize for the main roof section.
Its easier than you think. Use high temperature aerosol blue, apply to both the roof and the material
Start off gluing a 20 cm wide strip front to back. Then is is much easier to push the sides out wards in the next stage without any creases. I mask the gluing strip off on the roof and also onto the material, being careful to keep the chalk lines in the center and also aligned with each other when doing the gluing.
Then you are ready to do the sides of the rectangle, which I tend to do in one hit each. Hold a piece of cereal packet in your left hand to stop yourself spraying glue where you dont want it to go. Spray the material and the roof, wait a few minutes, then off you go, moving your hand outwards from the center.
Finally, when it is bonded, trim the edges of the rectangle with the razor, make sure you leave a bit too much to push into the perimeter rail gap.
The shape of the perimeter rail takes a bit of figuring out This is where the cant rail will attach. I have seen it done in one piece and also joined at the rear interior light as 2 pieces. Be generous with your cut, it is easy to trim back later. The front rail is covered off the car then screwed in.
