#1 Evening Drives

Post by PAUL MORRIS » Sat May 22, 2010 9:22 pm

Dear All,
Summer is here & light till late at night, went for a fantastic 1 Hr drive this evening, I just cant resist. I do about 30 mins or more on country roads between 70 & 90 mph, with all the nice countryside around me but being upset by the sports exhaust. Then I finish for as long on the highway with some dashes at 5500 revs at about 120 Mph. I just cant resist driving a bit fast from low to high its just unique what torque. People pass or try & follow with thumbs up & cameras etc. I just cant drive the dam car slowly its too tempting even if I swear to take it easy before leaving. I find after an hour the oil pressure is max of 40 & temp never more than half way.
Apart from that when I get home the engine cam covers are hot enough to cook eggs. How to know if we should take it easy or go for it. The VSE
recently restored engine just wants to go.
Be out again tomorrow night for sure.

Superb to see you are using the car as Jaguar intended. Take care my friend, enjoy and God speed.

I finally got my 67 OTS ready for a real drive after two years of piddling with ignition, carburation and tire issues, so SWMBO and I took a spin out to the Shenandoah mountains here in Virginia for lunch. We can't do the top end here in the States that our cars were designed for, but I've got to say that even while staying reasonably close to the posted speed limits on the windy mountain roads, I've never enjoyed being behind the wheel more than I did today with my E. Don't feel bad about not taking yours to the limit. Like yours, my temp stayed at 50 C and the oil pressure at just over 40lbs. When I got home, the cam covers were too hot to touch, but that's the way they should be.

Dear All,
Sounds Great, Hmm I would like to compare the V12 Music I imagine
it a manual. I think I read that the exhaust design was more of a fashion move at he time ? Lets see & hear a Video next time. Ok I try & find a small tripod for the Dashboard. I have not gone more than 50 miles from home yet I am bit concerned yet. I have done 700 miles in 1.5 months of evening drives.
