#1 Happy New Year

For many years the format in Fell Towers has been to invite as many of the neighbours as we can cram in for a meal and to see the new year in. We provided the main course, invitees brought the booze and desserts. We’d see the new year in while watching Jools Holland on the television, sing Auld Land Syne, all the while getting merrier and merrier. Lots of close proximity, hugs and kisses, and other appropriate contact. One neighbour insisted on first footing - bringing a lump of coal to throw on the fire. After washing the dishes and saying goodbye, those residing with us would settle down with a finger of malt in a lead crystal tumbler and wish the new year would be a good one.
On New Year’s Day itself, if the weather was good (no salt on the roads), the E would come out for a bimble. South coast, or a near by beauty sport.
For so many reasons this new year has been different.
Stay safe everyone. Safe and well.
